Let Us Answer Your Questions

General:

It is understandable that this is of the highest concern to pet owners. The returning of yours and only your pet’s remains is something we take very seriously. We have created a system of checks and balances to ensure every pet is individually identified whilst they are in our care. On receiving your pet into our care, they will be given a name tag that will stay with them throughout the entirety of the process (including during the actual water cremation). Your pet’s personal information is also digitally recorded and checked on arrival at our facility, when keepsakes are undertaken, prior to the water cremation commencing, at the conclusion of the process and when ashes are placed into their selected receptacle.

Privately sealed chambers within the unit ensures your pet is water cremated individually and the ashes returned to you are only from your pet. Our operating procedures have been created to ensure the integrity of your pet’s remains. We guarantee that you will receive yours and only your pet’s ashes/remains back.

In the unfortunate event that your pet passes away on a weekend or overnight we recommend you place your pet on a blanket in a small room with the aircon as low as it can go (18deg) and a sheet placed over your pet. Call us first thing in the morning to arrange immediate collection, even if it is a weekend or public holiday.

If you would like your pet to be put to sleep at home we recommend contacting Dr Kara from HomeVet on 0429 312 600. Please see www.homevetcare.com.au for more information.
If you need guidance on the right time to say farewell your vet can provide Quality of Life Assessment scales and advise you on the right time to let your pet pass to prevent suffering.

The Process:

It is a relatively new technology to Australia, however it has been widely used for both humans and pets in the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe for decades. It is growing in popularity due to it being a peaceful, natural and eco-friendly process. The process allows you to remember your pet’s final stage as being loving and gentle.

The water cremation process is slow and gentle. It occurs over a number of hours (approximately 20 hours). The flowing water, warmth and alkalinity mirrors an acceleration of the breakdown to molecular level that occurs in nature.

Processing the remains includes drying out for 'ash' generation which can take 24-48hrs. You will usually have your pet returned to you within a week.

Fire cremation is an oxidative technique (or burning) while water cremation is a reductive technique. Water pet cremation is environmentally friendly and pollution free, uses 95% less energy than fire cremation and returns 20% more ashes, which are finer, softer and whiter than those created from burning.

There are no pollutants or gases created in water cremation. There are zero air emissions, zero methane gas is produced and no “organic matter” escapes. There is no contribution to greenhouse gasses or harmful environmental effects.

Ashes created from water cremation are 100% pathogen and disease free, are sterile and are safe to handle.

The microchip remains intact and is usually functional during and after the aquacremation process. If it is preserved it can be returned with your pet’s ashes.

The ashes are similar; water pet cremation leaves a pure white powder while fire pet cremation produces a greyish course material. The process of water pet cremation preserves up to 20% more bone fragments than fire pet cremation.

During the process of water cremation all pathogens are destroyed. Any chemotherapy agents or drugs/toxins that your pet has in their body are rendered harmless. Any plates and screws remain intact and can be returned to you if you wish, otherwise they can be recycled.
Anything non-organic will remain intact after the process, so if your Lab has eaten a thong it will be preserved afterward.

The water remaining after the process is benign and is beneficial. The water consists of an EPA neutral solution of amino acids, peptides, sugars, soaps and electrolytes that is suitable for release into the environment. The water by-product is a valuable nutrient-rich product that can be used as a fertiliser additive in composting and bio-gas production.

Yes, they are eco-friendly. Alkalis only make up 5% of the solution and the rest of the volume is plain water. At the end of the cycle the alkali has been used up.
